PRC-PALM-SPC-5.51-pro3-frm1: INSTRUCTIONS FOR COLLECTION OF A 24-HOUR URINE TEST FORM
Collecting may begin at any time but it is usually started in the morning when you wake up (approximately 8:00 a.m.).
At 8:00 a.m. the patient is asked to urinate into the toilet. This specimen is NOT saved.
Collect all urine voided during the next 24 hours in the container provided by the laboratory.
At 8:00 a.m. the following morning, the patient voids and the specimen is saved and added to the container. This is the end of the collection. Please mark the time of the last collection on the container.
No urine should be discarded during the collection period. If an additional container is needed the laboratory will provide one.
The entire specimen must be refrigerated during the collection period.
Label container with the following:
Full Name
Date of Birth or MRN
Start of collection Date/time
End of collection Date/time
Return the urine specimen, as soon as possible after the collection period is completed. Sample must be refrigerated until delivered to laboratory.
Some tests may require blood samples to be drawn when you drop off your specimen. Please check with the Laboratory before leaving the area.
Collection in “Plain containers”- some tests require additives to be added after collection. Delay in delivery to laboratory may require recollection. It is suggested that these samples be brought to the lab within one hour after collection has been completed.
