INSTRUCTIONS FOR PINWORM COLLECTION (NIH PADDLE):

  1. Place the Name, Date of Birth and date and time of collection on the paddle
  2. Collect the specimen early in the morning before the patient gets out of bed or has a bowel movement.
  3. Separate the buttocks.  Using the sticky side of the plastic pinworm paddle, press against several areas of the perianal region with moderate pressure.
  4. Place paddle back in the container and return to the laboratory within 24 hours of collection.

STORE AT ROOM TEMPERATURE

NOTE: Remember to bring a written laboratory order with your specimen in order to properly process your tests.

  1. Pass urine into toilet.
  2. Collect stool directly into the white hat container you received from the laboratory.
  3. Using the spoon built into the cap of the vial, add small samples of stool (select stool that is bloody, slimy, and watery. If specimen is firm, take sample from both ends and in middle) continue to add until the liquid level in each vial reached the red fill line on the label.
  4. Screw cap on tightly and mix.
  5. Properly label sample with (Full Name, DOB or MRN and Time/ Date of collection)
  6. Storage requirement – see below:
  7. Drop off specimens at any Henry Ford Laboratory

Ova and Parasite (Comprehensive or Concentrate and Permanent Smear) or Stool Leukocytes
            (Pink & Grey container- Formalin/PVA Preservative):
            Bring container with stool sample directly to the Lab within (72) Hours (STORE AT ROOM TEMPERATURE)
