The Henry Ford Hospital Medical Executive Committee and Surgical Review Committee have approved that, "prior to performing nonemergent therapy based upon a pathologic tissue diagnosis, the HFHS treating physician must document a verified preoperative or pretreatment diagnosis in the Henry Ford medical record. A diagnosis, to be verified, must originate from a pathologist or pathology group from the same Henry Ford Health System facility or entity as the treating physician, or originate from a pathologist or pathology group with whom the treating physician has an existing professional relationship. The treating physician may request the Henry Ford Hospital Department of Pathology to review glass slides or tissue as necessary."
How to request a consult:
Generate a Surgical Exam Order in Epic and provide ICD-10 diagnostic code.
Submit glass slides and/or paraffin blocks from the referring institution and copy of their pathology report.
Provide pertinent clinical history to allow accurate pathologic interpretation.
Add additional physician(s) (CC) who need a copy of the pathlogy report and include deadline if applicable.
The laboratory will return pathologic materials to the referring institution.
